Biodiesel is a clean burning substitute for petroleum based diesel fuel. Biodiesel is made of vegetable oil.
To make or manufacture Biodiesel, you must first start with raw materials. The raw materials needed in the production of Biodiesel are a small amount of methanol and a ready supply of vegetable product. One of the most common vegetables used in the production of Biodiesel is corn, although depending on the geographic location of the manufacturing facility many other plants are used as well (rapeseed, soybeans, flaxseed, etc.). The first step is to use the raw vegetable product to make vegetable oil. Vegetable oil by itself will not be what you need to power a car, from here it has to be processed into Biodiesel.
The process for converting vegetable oil into Biodiesel is sometimes called ester interchange. To complete this process the vegetable oil has to be combined with a smaller amount of methanol and then put in the presence of a small quantity of an alkaline catalyst (for example, 5% to 1% sodium hydroxide). Vegetable oil is made up of so-called triglycerides, which is a compound of the trivalent alcohol glycerin with three fatty acids. The goal of ester interchange is to separate the glycerin molecule from the three fatty acids and replace it with three methanol molecules. This process then yields roughly 90% Biodiesel and 10% of a glycerin byproduct. The glycerin byproduct can be used in a number of other chemical processes for different industries.

how Earthquakes Happen
Earthquake is one of the most destroying natural disasters. Unluckily it often happens in several regions. Recently a horrible earthquake has shaken West Sumatra. It has brought great damages. Why did it occur? Do you know how an earthquake happens? Earthquakes are usually caused when rock underground suddenly breaks along a fault. This sudden release of energy causes the seismic waves. It make the ground shake. When two blocks of rock or two plates are rubbing against each other, they stick a little. They don’t just slide smoothly. The rocks are still pushing against each other, but not moving. After a while, the rocks break because of all the pressure that’s built up. When the rocks break, the earthquake occurs. During the earthquake and afterward, the plates or blocks of rock start moving, and they continue to move until they get stuck again. The spot underground where the rock breaks is called the focus of the earthquake. The place right above the focus is called the epicenter of the earthquake.

Explanation text is the text which tells processes relating to forming of natural, social, scientific and cultural phenomena. Explanation text is to say ‘why’ and ‘how’ of the forming of the phenomena. It is often found in science, geography and history text books.

characteristic :
- Featuring generic participant; sun, rain, etc
- Using chronological connection; to begin with, next, etc
- Using passive voice pattern
- Using simple present tense

structure :
- General statement; stating the phenomenon issues which are to be explained.
- Sequenced explanation; stating a series of steps which explain the phenomena.

example :

Tsunami

The term of “tsunami” comes from the Japanese which means harbour (“tsu”) and wave (“nami”). A tsunamigk is a series of waves generated when water in a lake or the sea is rapidly displaced on a massive scale.

A tsunami can be generated when the sea floor abruptly deforms and vertically displaces the overlying water. Such large vertical movements of the earth’s crust can occur at plate boundaries.

Subduction of earthquakes are particularly effective in generating tsunamis, and occur where denser oceanic plates slip under continental plates.

As the displaced water mass moves under the influence of gravity to regain its equilibrium, it radiates across the ocean like ripples on a pond.

Tsunami always bring great damage. Most of the damage is caused by the huge mass of water behind the initial wave front, as the height of the sea keeps rising fast and floods powerfully into the coastal area.

hope it helps

Making Paper from Woodchips
General statementWoodchipping is a process used to obtain pulp and paper products from forest trees. The woodchipping process begins when the trees are cut down in a selected area of the forest called a coupe.

Squence of explanation

Next the tops and branches of the trees are cut out and then the logs are taken to the mill. At the mill the bark of the logs is removed and the logs are taken to a chipper which cuts them into small pieces called woodchips. The woodchips are then screened to remove dirt and other impurities. At this stage they are either exported in this form or changed into pulp by chemicals and heat. The pulp is then bleached and the water content is removed.
ClosingFinally the pulp is rolled out to make paper.

Snow Snow is slightly different from the ice. Snow is a collection of small ice crystals and interconnected. Ice is clear and color less as the accumulation of crystals combine to form snowflakes.

Snow is invisible to us because of the light.Snow fell from the top to the atmosphere and reaches Earth. Ice crystals allow the light that falls on them to get reflected on its surface. There are some crystal faces and the light because it's also so scattered. Has a wave length of visible light of different light show to us.When light strikes any object to be absorbed somewhere in the reflected light and the other part. Part of the reflected light reaches our eyes and make us recognize colors. Light falling on the ice crystals do not pass through the glass for long distances, but they tend to change direction. Light reflected at an angle in the ice. As the snow there as a collection of some of the snow flakes on the ground, the light falling on them will not have a specific wavelength this reflected with some regularity. Thus, most of the light falling on the snow almost entirely be reflected back. The light that is reflected in the snow will stay white for most of the time as the total light and the reflected wavelength. Therefore, the snow is white.

How Venus Eclipse Happens
on May 16, 2010, people in most regions in the world
have seen a very rare natural phenomenon. It was Venus
eclipse. It was very rare amazing natural event. It was
reported that the Venus eclipse will seen again in the
future in 2050. Do you know how this rare Venus
eclipse happens?
Well, actually Venus eclipse is like Sun eclipse. Venus
eclipses occurs when the position of the earth, moon
and Venus is parallel. Venus planet will slowly
disappear for a moment because it is covered the
surface of the Moon. Venus planet seems to move to the
back side of the Moon.
The moon and planets are sharing a similar apparent
path in the sky. That is why, it is not unusual for the
moon to appear to pass close to Venus. In fact, the
moon appears somewhere near it about once a month.
However, most people don’t see these events because
they are visible in the evening sky only half the time,
and then only for a short period after sunset. The
apparent closeness varies from month to month as well.

How a Kite is Flying-Flying Kite
A kite is an object which is made from a light material stretched over a frame. Due to its light material a kite will lift off the ground and fly when it is tilted into the wind.
A kite is uses wind to make it fly because it is heavier than air. When wind travels over the surface of the kite, it is split into two streams of air. One stream of the air goes over the kite while the second stream goes under the kite.
The upper stream creates an area of low pressure above the kite. The lower stream hits the kite at a shallow angle and creates an area of high pressure.
The high pressure area has a pushing effect while the low pressure area has a pulling effect. The combination of push and pull can creates enough force to lift the kite into the air.
Kites have been known for thousand of years. They are used for military or scientific purposes. Todays kites are much used for leisure and competition.-How Chocolate is made?-

Recycling is a collection, processing, and reuse of materials that would otherwise be thrown away. Materials ranging from precious metals to broken glass, from old newspapers to plastic spoons, can be recycled. The recycling process reclaims the original material and uses it in new products.

In general, using recycled materials to make new products costs less and requires less energy than using new materials. Recycling can also reduce pollution, either by reducing the demand for high-pollution alternatives or by minimizing the amount of pollution produced during the manufacturing process.

Paper products that can be recycled include cardboard containers, wrapping paper, and office paper. The most commonly recycled paper product is newsprint. In newspaper recycling, old newspapers are collected and searched for contaminants such as plastic bags and aluminum foil. The paper goes to a processing plant where it is mixed with hot water and turned into pulp in a machine that works much like a big kitchen blender. The pulp is screened and filtered to remove smaller contaminants. The pulp then goes to a large vat where the ink separates from the paper fibers and fl oats to the surface. The ink is skimmed off, dried and reused as ink or burned as boiler fuel. The cleaned pulp is mixed with new wood fibers to be made into paper again.

Experts estimate the average office worker generates about 5 kg of wastepaper per month. Every ton of paper that is recycled saves about 1.4 cu m (about 50 cu ft) of landfill space. One ton of recycled paper saves 17 pulpwood trees (trees used to produce paper). 1. The following things can be recycled, EXCEPT....

Why Eiffel Tower was Built

If we talk about the Wonders of the World buildings, then we will see Eiffel Tower as one of them. However many of us do not know the tower’s past history on why it was build. Everything has the reasonable background, especially for the tower which is to be one of the most recognized buildings in the world.

Primarily, the Eiffel Tower was built for the World Exhibition. It was called Paris Exposition in 1889. The exhibition was organized to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. The purpose of building Eiffel Tower in such structure was to show to the world France’s advancement of technology and beauty. The Eiffel Tower was designed by Gustave Eiffel. It seemed that then the name of the tower was derived from the designer’s last name, “Eiffel”

Another reason on why the tower was built was for scientific progress. Although few realized it, the Eiffel Tower would become the prominent structure in terms of science and technology. Many experiment with temperature, pressure and pendulums were performed atop the unique famous building. Additionally the Eiffel Tower was used for radio transmission tower. Many experiments were conducted atop the Eiffel Tower for radio transmission advancement. Once the Eiffel Tower was proposed to be demolished but it was spared because the tower had the promising future as a radio tower.

day happens when the sun is above us or there's a sunlight. but it's not all part of the Earth that is being hitten by the sunlight. and the part of earth that isn't being hitten by the sun, we call it a night. actually, it's not the sun that's spinning around the earth as we usually see. but, it is the earth that spins around the sun.

so, part of earth that's facing the sun, there's a day. meanwhile, the part of earth that's not facing the sun, there's a night.

Is Smoking Good For Us?
Before we smoke, it is better to look at the fact of smoking effects, not only for smokers but also for non-smokers. About 50 thousand people die every year in Britain as a direct result of smoking. This is 7 times as many as deaths in road accidents. Nearly a quarter of smokers die because of diseases caused by smoking. 90% of lung cancers are caused by smoking. If we smokers 5 cigarettes a day, we are 6 times more likely to die of lung cancer than non-smoker. If we smoker twenty cigarettes a day, the risk is nineteen time greater. Ninety five percent of people who suffer from bronchitis are people who smoking. Smoker are two and haft times more likely to die of heart disease than non-smokers. Additionally, children of smokers are more likely to develop bronchitis and pneumonia. In one hour in a smoky room, a non smokers breathes as much as substance causing cancer as if he had smoked fifteen cigarettes.Smoking is really good for tobacco companies because they do make much money from smoking habit. Smoking, however , is not good for every body else.

1. Full Moon
A full moon is the lunar phase that occurs when the Moon is completely illuminated as seen from the Earth. This occurs when the moon is in opposition to the Sun (when it is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun; more precisely, when the ecliptic longitudes of the Sun and Moon differ by 180 degrees).[1] This means that the hemisphere of the Moon that is facing the Earth (the near side) is almost fully illuminated by the Sun and appears round (while the far side is almost completely unilluminated).
Lunar eclipses can occur only at full moon, where the Moon’s orbit allows it to pass through the Earth’s shadow. Lunar eclipses do not occur every month because the Moon usually passes above or below the Earth’s shadow (which is mostly restricted to the ecliptic plane). Lunar eclipses can occur only when the full moon occurs near the two nodes of the orbit, either the ascending or descending node. This causes eclipses to only occur about every 6 months, and often 2 weeks before or after a solar eclipse at new moon at the opposite node.
The time interval between similar lunar phases—the synodic month—averages about 29.53 days. Therefore, in those lunar calendars in which each month begins on the new moon, the full moon falls on either the 14th or 15th of the lunar month. Because calendar months have a whole number of days, lunar months may be either 29 or 30 days long.
Artinya: Bulan Purnama
2. Honey
Everybody likes honey. Even, it can be a medicine for most deseases. How is Honey Made?
Honeybees use nectar to make honey. Nectar is almost 80% water with some complex sugars. In fact, if you have ever pulled a honeysuckle blossom out of its stem, nectar is the clear liquid that drops from the end of the blossom.
In North America, bees get nectar from flowers like clovers, dandelions, berry bushes and fruit tree blossoms. They use their long, tubelike tongues like straws to suck the nectar out of the flowers and they store it in their “honey stomachs”.
Bees actually have two stomachs, their honey stomach which they use like a nectar backpack and their regular stomach. The honey stomach holds almost 70 mg of nectar and when full, it weighs almost as much as the bee does. Honeybees must visit between 100 and 1500 flowers in order to fill their honeystomachs.
Artinya: Madu
Semua orang suka madu.

Tornado
Tornadoes are associated with large (supercell) thunderstorms that often grow to over 40,000 feet. A column of warm humid air will begin to rise very quickly. How Do Tornadoes Form?
1. Air Rotates Because of Wind Shear.
How the column of air begins to rotate is not completely understood by scientists, but one way the rotation appears to happen is when winds at two different altitudes blow at two different speeds creating wind shear. For example, a wind at 1000 feet above the surface might blow at 5mph and a wind at 5000 feet might blow at 25mph. This causes a horizontal rotating column of air.
2. Faster Spin Makes a Funnel Cloud.
If this column gets caught in a supercell updraft, the updraft tightens the spin and it speeds up (much like a skater’s spins faster when arms are pulled close to the body. A funnel cloud is created.
3. The Funnel Rotates and Touches Down.
The rain and hail in the thunderstorm cause the funnel to touch down creating a tornado.

Artinya:  Angin Tornado
2. cepat Spin membuat corong awan.

Rainbow is a natural phenomenon that is so impressive. This phenomenon often appears after rain. Rainbow is an arc spectrum which is so large and occurs because the drops are refracted by sunlight. When the sun is shining and the light passing through water
droplets, then you will see a refraction that causes a wide variety of colors. Light is refracted like light passing through a glass prism.

Other names of the rainbow is a rainbow which is a symptom of optical and meteorological phenomenon in which light with different colors refracted parallel to each other into water droplets. You can also see this phenomenon under the very high and heavy waterfall.

How does rainbow happen in detail? All the happenings begin when the sunlight passing through the raindrops. Then the light is deflected to the center of the droplet. The white light, now separated from each other into a spectrum of colors. The process does not stop there. The colors that have been separated, then separate again into the very small portions. There is more light separated from each other in the droplets. Then there are more curved and finally those color form a light curve called a rainbow.

Can we make a rainbow? Of course. There are at least two ways that you can do to make a rainbow. First, you can use a spray containing water. We know that rainbows occur when sunlight passing through the raindrops. So, we make our own rain droplets from the water spray. In the morning or afternoon, spray water under the sun, then see the water droplets flying. Spray lots of water and you will see a small rainbow that you can touch easily.

Second, use pieces of video discs then reflected to the light of the sun, and navigate to the wall or ceiling of your house. On the ceiling or the wall, you will see a colorful light that have the same color with the rainbow.

That’s the definition of rainbow, how does it happen, and how we can make it true.

Human body is made up of countless millions of cells. Food is needed to built up new cells and replace the worn out cells. However, the food that we take must be changed into substances that can be carried in the blood to the places where they are needed. This process is called digestion.

The first digestive process takes place in the mouth. The food we eat is broken up into small pieces by the action of teeth, mixed with saliva, a juice secreted by glands in the mouth. Saliva contains digestive juice which moisten the food, so it can be swallowed easily.

From the mouth, food passes through the esophagus (the food passage) into the stomach. Here, the food is mixed with the juices secreted by the cells in the stomach for several hours. Then the food enters the small intestine. All the time the muscular walls of the intestine are squeezing, mixing and moving the food onwards.

In a few hours, the food changes into acids. These are soon absorbed by the villi (microscopic branch projections from the intestine walls) and passed into the bloodstream.

Artinya

Making Paper from Wood chips (General statement) Do you know that paper is made from wood? Ya, paper that we use in our daily life is made from wood or tree. The process of making paper from wood is quite long. The process is called wood-chipping. Wood-chipping is a process used to obtain pulp and paper products from forest trees. (Sequence of explanation) The wood-chipping process begins when the trees are cut down in a selected area of the forest called a coupe. Next the tops and branches of the trees are cut out and then the logs are taken to the mill. At the mill the bark of the logs is removed and the logs are taken to a chipper which cuts them into small pieces called wood chips. The wood chips are then screened to remove dirt and other impurities. At this stage they are either exported in this form or changed into pulp by chemicals and heat. The pulp is then bleached and the water content is removed. (Closing) Finally the pulp is rolled out to make paper.

Flood does not only come with water, but it also transports materials such as mud. Floods like this are obviously more dangerous than water because someone will not be able to swim in the midst of this flood to save themselves. It washes away everything that possible, because the damage is very high. Usually this flood will wash away some forest trees or large boulders. These materials can certainly damage the settlement residents in the area surrounding the mountains.

TEKS EKSPLANASI ANGIN PUTING BELIUNGHow Does The Fan Work?

The Fan is an electronic device that everybody use it in their house. People use the fan to make the air in the room cooler, especially in hot day. And how does the fan work?
An electric fan is an electric motor with some fan blades attached to its rotating shaft. As the motor spins, the fan blades rotate. Each blade is angled a bit, and as the inclined plane of the blade moves through the air, it forces the air ahead of it forward. Each blade does this on a continuous basis, and the result is a moving air stream. The fan is taking air from the area behind itself and blowing it out the front.
The fan generates a movement of air, causing the warm dense air to descend, and the cool dense air to rise, thus creating a feeling of coolness in the air.

2. A Sequenced of Explanation

3. Closing

Closing mempunyai dua kubu pengertian.

Menggunakan kata penghubung antar kalimat berupa then, as a result, so, if, because, therefore

Menggunakan penanda urutan peristiwa misalnya: first, then, next, after, finally

Menggunakan action verbs

Flood

General Statement: Flooding is a natural phenomenon that usually happens in a lot of areas drained by the river flow. In simple terms, it can be defined as the presence of flood water in a vast region that covers the area of the earth’s surface.

Sequenced of explanations: Flooding process itself occurs when the rains come and cause water sources such as rivers, seas, lakes, and ditches no longer able to accommodate the water drop. The barren land covered with trees without overflowing water will speed up the process of proficiency level, because the trees that should absorb the water have been used as a furniture material. When the water source is no longer able to accommodate, the water will overflow and flow into residential areas and have a big impact. Nowadays, flood is an annually happening in some big cities in Indonesia, especially Jakarta.

Tsunami..
The term of “tsunami” comes from the Japanese which means harbor ("tsu") and wave ("nami"). A tsunami is a series of waves generated when water in a lake or the sea is rapidly displaced on a massive scale.
A tsunami can be generated when the sea floor abruptly deforms and vertically displaces the overlying water. Such large vertical movements of the earth's crust can occur at plate boundaries. Subduction of earthquakes are particularly effective in generating tsunamis, and occur where denser oceanic plates slip under continental plates.
Tsunami always bring great damage. Most of the damage is caused by the huge mass of water behind the initial wave front, as the height of the sea keeps rising fast and floods powerfully into the coastal area.
