Sama saja sebenarnya. Reported speech melaporkan apa yang dikatakan sedangkan reported thought melaporkan kesimpulan.
Perbedaan mungkin ada di reporting verbnya. Reported speech menggunakan reporting verb seperti say, tell, atau ask dan yang lainnya.
Reported thought menggunakan reporting verb seperti wonder, know, persuade, dll.
Contoh reported thought :
direct : She said, "I'm late, sorry." -> kalau reported speechnya She said that she was late and she was sorry.
Tapi kita bisa simpulkan seperti ini: She apologized for being late. (pada kalimat langsungnya tidak ada kata apologized.
